In House Parties
6:22 AM | Author: M. Umar Qureshi

There is change in a way teens think and see things and that is the kind of change that is going to proliferate in Pakistan in coming years. One can think that they will stop at one time or the other but in reality this is just the beginning. I mean when we were in our teens we most certainly did not find it easy or common to have "In House" parties where we could freely socialize with each other and dance all night long. But nowadays these parties are just a common trend. There is no thrill in life if there aren't any "In House" parties. At this stage these kinds of parties are only the first step on the stairway to what these teens might call "The Cool World" while for others it is straight away a step in the ditch of Shame.
What is it that has caused such a cultural change in the society to prevail? Is the blame only to go to the western influence?

I think this is a very sad and shameful Situation. To think that our country was based on Islam this is a heart breaking trend growing among the naive teenagers. This is happening because we have forgotten our roots our religion and our parents are partially to blame for that. There are so many good things we can pick from the western culture and this is the least of them all. I think Umar you did a good job and there should more Internet based awareness about these kind of issues. May Allah help us all. Ameen.

There is most definitely a western influence on our culture. But that is not the only reason.
One reason could be the on going situation in our country. It might have changed the viewpoints of religion of many because it might have engendered a hatred, to some extent, toward religion.
Other reason about such a change in the society is because the youth feels insecure about our culture, religion and most importantly themselves. People should realize that its what we are that makes us unique. People should do whatever they want but it would be better to restrain it to our culture.
I agree with what you said that it is only the beginning. One might consider this a shameful situation but I think it is good for us. Let there be art, let there be music and for Umar especially, let there be "dance". In my opinion a person develops a good insight about life if he interacts with other people more often. As Aristotle said man by nature is a social animal....and FYI I'm a party animal :D

While this trend may have become popular nowadays, it is by no means something NEW that has just come about. People have been throwing such parties for quite a while now in form or another.

The fact of the matter is that some people in Pakistan just have too much financial power to the point that they can easily get away which such things. People can have the best of values and religious backgrounds but once they reach such a height of power, their priorities are bound to change. This is reflected in the actions of the coming generations of people.

I personally don't really judge these people as good or bad. Everyone makes their own decisions. What other people do with their lives is not really of any concern to me.

At the end of the day, they'r the ones who are getting "corrupted" and losing their "morals" as it would be described by many people.

@ Pak youth....why do we all see this as being corrupted or losing our morals? Thats the problem, people are too stiff in thier thoughts. Your right it is thier decision, but they can use it for positive or negative matters. That is where individuals matter, who can control them selves.

It's only the media and how quickly information travels. You literally have all the information of the world at your fingertips in your pocket nowadays (provided you have a cellphone with internet connectivity of course). Obviously, with such a rapid rate of information sharing, changes are bound to be quicker and radical. Couple that with the *coughs* assholes *coughs* who pretend to be the authority on Islam today in the country and it all makes perfect sense.

Though I disagree that this so called party-ism is a new thing, I only think it has become more common now in more cities. As for whether it is wrong or right, it's only a matter of personal opinion, which isn't relevant. As long as it doesn't hurt my freedom or your freedom, it is perfectly acceptable.

Well looks like an influence of globalization....richer people or higher middle class get easier access to Western entertainment and culture, so they are more receptive to it. This has happened in other countries as well, so I am not surprised.

Amazingly concentrated in a few lines. This article encompasses alot many problems that would generate from only minor ones. We need thinkers like these to bring a revolution or atleast a new thougt process. Brilliantly concised opinion.

so i agree with kazi that this party-ism is not a new thing it has just became more common and thats why more people know about it now and obviously it becoming commong imply that more people have become part of it. Indeed globalization is playing an integral role in such a cultural change and influencing these people to open up.

On the other hand i also like say that faisal has a point why to blame western influence for all of this.I mean people who fall under the category of rich or middle class must obviously be educated. which should make it easier for them to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. so even if they have accessibility to know what is happening in west it doesn t mean that they should be getting influenced and start following their footsteps.
